“A Partnership Built On Trust”

Run SMART client Everett Hill shares some thoughts about his coach Vince Sherry

Courtesy of Vince, I’ve enjoyed a giddy three years of PR after PR as a newbie masters runner. I was initially skeptical about remote coaching (don’t coaches stand at the finish line with a stopwatch?). The secret is that Vince and I have forged a partnership built on trust.

Magic Orgil Sets 2nd PR With Run SMART

Congratulations to Run SMART client Magic Orgil for setting her second PR since signing up for private coaching with Run SMART! Magic ran over three minutes faster than her previous best on a very challenging course at the San Francisco Half Marathon. Her official time was 1:47:53 (8:14 per mile). Her average pace was 8:26 per mile through 7.5 miles and then she managed to drop it down to 8:14 over what sounded like a very challenging finish after the Golden Gate Bridge.

Magic has been working with Run SMART coach Vince Sherry since May of 2010.

Jamesina Simpson Wins The Grizzly Half Marathon

Run SMART client Jamesina Simpson just chillin with Grizz after her half marathon victory at the 2010 Grizzly Half Marathon in Choteau, MT. Jamesina won in 1:29:21 (6:49 per mile) and beat the next female finisher by almost 6 minutes (full results). The most significant part of Jamesina’s race, besides getting to pose with a grizzly bear afterwards, was that she ran about the same time she did at the Rock ‘N Roll Phoenix Half Marathon earlier this year. Not bad considering she ran all by her lonesome in this race on a much hillier course (most of it gravel) and at 4,000 feet!

Ask a Coach: Should I Wear Nike Free Running Shoes?

And the latest question in our Ask a Coach series comes from Samantha…

Samantha:  I am a moderate overpronator and was wondering if it would be harmful to incorporate running with the nike free (designed to simulate barefoot running) into my training. Would it hurt my form and my body?

Run SMART Coach, Vince Sherry: The Nike Free Run is designed to work for mild to moderate overpronation.  If you look at the bottom of the shoe you’ll notice that it looks flat and rather broad under the arch.  This allows for optimal surface area to come into contact with both the ground and your foot.

Thanks, Coach!

Run SMART client Michelle LaSala was kind enough to let us share a truly thoughtful message about her coach, Vince Sherry. And a wonderful addition to our testimonials page it is indeed!

I owe all of my post-collegiate running success and much of my day to day happiness to my coach, Vince Sherry.

Everett Hill Sets 9th PR With Run SMART

Last time we posted a result for Everett Hill we mentioned that it seemed like he set a new PR every time he stepped foot in a race. Today, we’re proud to report his 9th PR with Run SMART.

Magic Drops 5 Minutes Off 10k Time

Congratulations to Run SMART client Magic Orgil for placing second in her age group and 15th overall at the Santa Cruz Firecracker 10k (full results). Magic finished the race in 48:21, a 5 minute improvement over her time in the same race last year!!!

Michelle LaSala Rocks Out In San Diego

Run SMART client Michelle LaSala set a new PR at the 2010 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon. She was the 17th female finisher out of 9,646 in a time of 1:30:28 (results), which is just over three minutes faster than her previous best set back in 2007. Also important to note, Michelle’s second fastest mile split of the day (6:45) was her 13th mile of the race! Sweet finish!

Tom Klimek Drops Over A Minute Off 10k Time

Big congrats to Run SMART client Tom Klimek for dropping over one minute from his time last year at the Wissahickon Trail Classic 10K.  Klimek finished 40th this year in a time of 48:28 (full results). Last June, he finished 72nd overall in 49:37.  For those of you unfamiliar with the Wissahickon Trails it is extremely technical and challenging terrain, not to be compared with typical 10k road times, for sure.

Tom has been working with Run SMART coach Vince Sherry since April of ’09.

Everett Hill’s PR Parade Continues

Everett Hill has been working with Run SMART coach Vince Sherry for almost three years now. He has turned 50 since and is still setting new personal bests over a variety of distances. Just three weeks after setting a new half marathon PR in Nashville, Everett ran his fastest 5k ever in 23:54 at the Alpharetta 5k, dropping 37 seconds off of his previous best.

After Vince forwarded Everett’s results I did a quick search since it seems like Everett runs a PR every time he signs up for a race.
