This is Lisa’s second PR while working with Run SMART coach Vince Sherry.

New PRs At Brooklyn Half Marathon

Run SMART clients Charlie Hartel and Rob DeLong set new PRs at the Brooklyn Half Marathon yesterday morning.

Hartel cruised to a new 4-minute PR marking the first time he’s ever dipped under 1:30. His official time was 1:29:13 (6:49 per mile). [Charlie’s Results] When Charlie signed up for coaching about 2.5 years ago his PR for a half was 1:44. In his best 10k at that point he averaged 7:36 per mile to give you an idea of what a huge transformation he’s made while working with Run SMART coach Vince Sherry.

This was Rob DeLong’s second half marathon ever. He finished in 1:50:43 just reaching his goal of 1:50:59 which gets him into one of the seeded corrals at the Chicago Marathon later this fall. [Rob’s Results] This was just over a six minute PR for Rob in less than two months since his last half and his 6th personal best since signing up for coaching in February. Rob works with Run SMART coach Brian Rosetti.

Peter Kosgei Runs 1:07 In First Half Marathon

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer Peter Kosgei won the Bridge Run Half Marathon in Binghamton, NY last weekend. Peter finished in 1:07:52, almost 3 minutes ahead of the second place competitor! [Full Results] After the race Peter said, “It was my first half-marathon, so I had never done anything more than 9.3 miles. It was good.” Full story at pressconnects.

Not only was it impressive that he ran this fast by himself in his first half marathon ever, Peter did this while following one of Jack’s 5k plans. Who knows what he could have run with a little half marathon specific work and some competition?

Heidi Peoples Wins St. Luke’s Half Marathon

Run SMART coach Heidi Peoples won the St. Luke’s Half Marathon in Allentown, PA! Heidi finished almost 3 minutes ahead of the next female runner and was 15th overall out of a record 3,217 runners. Her official time was in 1:17:47. [Results] Not bad considering she gave birth about 6-months ago!!!

Lehigh Valley Running Scene was reporting from the race…

Peoples, coming off the birth of a daughter sixth months ago, had a 30-second lead over Jobes after three miles and kept building it throughout the race.

Tish Pace Sets New 5k And Half Marathon PRs

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer Tish Pace (pictured above, right) signed up for an 18-week marathon schedule geared towards the Grandma’s Marathon in June. Since then she has set new PRs for 5k and the half marathon. In the 5k she set a 38-second PR finishing in 20:42. And at the St. Jude Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville she set a 2-minute PR and finished in 1:38:17. [Results]

Ed Balow Drops 15 Minutes Off Half Marathon Time

Ed Balow purchased a Jack Daniels Half Marathon Training Plan last December. His goal race is in two weeks at the Run Raleigh Half. Recently, Ed checked in with us after jumping in a local half marathon simply to do his marathon pace workout.

My intention was to run it as a 2 mile easy, 8 miles at marathon pace workout, but to go hard the last 5K of the race.  Amazingly, it went according to plan.  It was fun to have those first 2 easy miles because I pretty much blew by everyone for the next 5 or 6 miles until I settled into the group of folks at my 7:30 pace. I had lots of energy left after 10 miles and was able to finish strong coming in at 1:39:30 which blows my old half PR out of the water by about 15 minutes!

Regardless of what happens in two weeks I already consider this plan a great success.  You got me into starting corral C for the Chicago Marathon and sub 1:40, and I didn’t even have to race very hard to get it!

Congrats on the new PR, Ed! Good luck in Raleigh!

“Wanted to let you know how well the plan is working!”

More positive feedback. This from Danielle Duhon

I am following my Jack Daniels Training Plan to the second to train for Grandma’s Marathon June 16 (goal 3:35). I ran Dallas Rock & Roll Half yesterday in warm weather and had a 2 minute PR running 1:38:57 (the plan predicted a 1:39:45 by week 9). Of course I’m ecstatic and wanted to let you know how well the plan is working!

Rob DeLong Improving Quickly

When Rob DeLong signed up for private coaching six weeks ago his short term goal was to finish his first half marathon in 2:05. As a newbie runner the longest Rob had ever run in one run before getting started with Run SMART was 15k or 9.3 miles. We’re happy to report that Rob smashed his goal time by almost 10 minutes at the NYRR’s NYC Half Marathon last weekend.

His official time was 1:56:59 (8:56 per mile). Full Results. Rob’s Run SMART coach Brian Rosetti noted afterwards, “The game plan was to run conservative early and break the race up into three parts slowly getting faster as the race went on. He really nailed the pacing and now he’s feeling great and ready to focus on getting faster.” Rob’s 10k split was 56:44 (9:07 per mile) so he came home a lot faster over the second half of the race! And we should note that in his last 10k earlier this year he ran 58:05, so even while going out conservatively he still managed to set a new 10k PR during the race!

Amy Gordon Ready To Roll At Boston Marathon

Run SMART client Amy Gordon set a new half marathon PR under very difficult conditions. With wind gusts up to 20 and 30 mph Amy still managed to drop 1 minute and 20 seconds off of her personal best. Her official time was 1:33:40 (7:08 per mile). To put this performance into perspective, Amy averaged 7:16 per mile at the NYRR Gridiron Classic 4M in early February.

This is a great sign for Amy and her coach Vince Sherry with roughly one month to go until Amy’s goal race, The Boston Marathon.
