Greg Gilliam of Stafford, VA set five new PRs this fall after customizing an 18-week marathon plan. Gilliam’s main objective was to PR at Marine Corps so he was pleasantly surprised to see how much his new fitness helped him achieve personal bests across other distances as well.

Incredible progress from Run SMART coach Rod Koborsi and client. Lee recently set a new PR at the Royal Parks Half Marathon in Hyde Park. Afterwards he thanked his coach:
I finished the Royal Parks Half Marathon today in 1:44:52 and that wouldn’t have been possible without the work you’ve been doing with me. Thank you. I didn’t expected to set new 5k, 10k and Half Marathon records in the same race – but your training has obviously paid off! I’m very pleased.
Lillian Park just picked up a big confidence boost while she prepares for the Cal International Marathon in December. This past weekend she set a new personal best at the Wineglass Half Marathon and achieved a goal she’s been shooting for the past two years. Not only was Lillian all smiles after the race her coach, Leah Rosenfeld, was stoked too, “Lillian just ran a 3-minute PR in the half marathon! Her PR when she started with me 5-months ago was 1:46:36 and her short-term goal was to break 1:45:xx… today she ran 1:43:31!!!!”
After finishing first in her age group at the Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon earlier this year, Anna Coe-Salazar customized another training plan from Jack Daniels geared towards the Edinburgh Half. Success! Again!! She finished 7th in her age group in 1:39:30. [Full Results]
This is the third half this year in which I achieved my goal of running it under 1:40. I am very happy with the results although I feel I could have pushed just a bit more in the beginning, but was afraid I wouldn’t have enough left in the tank for the second half of the race. I suppose it’s all part of gaining more experience.
I am happy to also report I wasn’t injured during the program or during the race. It gave me so much peace of mind and confidence. Thank you, your plan has worked wonders for me. Perfect balance.
Brad Stumpf got a new PR at the Capital City Half Marathon last weekend. He improved his personal best in very challenging conditions (stormy rain/wind) by 3-minutes with a time of 1:28:42. [Full Results]
Afterwards, Brad talked about what it’s like to work with our superstar coach and Olympian Janet Bawcom:
Janet has been great. She is always available when I have a specific question regarding workout or paces (as I’m a number person) as well as having specific race plans. The whole process and workouts that are specific to my ability has made me understand the whole training spectrum significantly better, with Janet there throughout the whole process.
Recovering is going well, back on the grind to get that BQ.
Valter Oliveira of Odivelas, Portugal set a new PR at the MEIA ILHAVO 21.1K. His official time was 1:27:07, a 2-minute PB!
Afterwards he gave the old hat tip to his coach Nikki Reiter:
Working with Nikki is really great! Seems to me that much more is still to come 😉
Joe Swift of Fairfield, CT turns 40 in a few months but he’s refusing to accept the idea that you need to create new “Masters PRs” due to the impending slowdown as his body ages. This winter we customized a 15-week training plan to help him run as fast as possible and he refused to miss a beat, even doing Threshold miles by himself at 5 a.m. in the dark before work!
Run SMART client Anthony DiAngelus of Odessa, FL was kind enough to let us share his feedback as he gears up for his big debut at Boston:
I wanted to drop you and the Run SMART Project a line to let you know that my quality training workouts are now complete and I am ready to take on my first Boston Marathon in a few short weeks.
As you may recall, I qualified for Boston during my first marathon using your custom plan (Chicago 2015 – 3:21:23 VDOT 47.7). Since then, I have used the plan with adjusted paces and Dr. Daniels’ training philosophy to continuously improve while staying injury free.
Jorge Ospina bested his 4-year-old half marathon PR at the NYC Half this past weekend. His official time was 1:21:55 (6:15 per mile). [Results] The 44-year-old from Ann Arbor, MI is currently training for the Boston Marathon so we’re excited to see what he can do with tapered legs later next month!
