I decided to use the personal coaching services for my fall 2018 season. I was assigned Coach Gary Berard. Right out of the gate, I noticed changes to my usual training: 1) my speed work mileage was increased, but encompassed a broader range of paces; 2) my rest days were also increased.

I found the app easy to use and Gary was great about responding to email. Sometimes we had to make adjustments for schedule changes or weather, and he was very agreeable. Which is great for a working, single mother!

And the outcome of all the training was fantastic!!! I’ve stayed injury-free for the last 15-weeks of training and had a lot of success!

My greatest achievement was to PR by over a minute in my 10k on a very challenging course and by over THREE minutes in my half marathon. I also ran my fastest pace in a 5k (6:17) on a challenging and long course.

Scott Alford set a goal to qualify for the 2020 Boston Marathon. The 43-year-old from Chicago signed up for private coaching back in January and got matched with Run SMART Project coach Gary Berard. He needed 3:25 to BQ but was looking for more like 3:22 for insurance.

Steady Stream Of PRs For Arnaud Clairay

Arnaud Clairay of New York, NY has set a PR every month since he started working with Run SMART coach Gary Berard.

Congrats to Mieko on reaching her goal of sub-4 at the Chicago Marathon last weekend. Mieko’s official time was 3:54:13, a 10-minute improvement from her previous best.

Simon Glendenning Goes Sub-3 For The First Time

Simon Glendenning signed up for private coaching back in October of 2015. His marathon PR at the time was 3:06. We’re excited to report that the 38-year-old from Victoria, Australia reached his goal by cracking three hours for the first time at the Gold Coast Marathon.

Eric Wong Sets New Personal Best At BK Half

Congrats to Eric Wong and coach Gary Berard on a PR performance at the Brooklyn Half Marathon. Eric finished in 1:32:53 (7:06 per mile). [Full results]

In a sign of great pacing and coaching, if you take Eric’s split at 10k and 15k he was right at 7:06 and 7:05 per mile.

Bradley Geilfuss Trumps El Niño In LA

Bradley Geilfuss set a 2-minute PR in the heat at the LA Marathon this past weekend. His official time was 3:18:53 [Results]. That 2-minute PR is deceiving considering his previous PR was set on a downhill course. He was also forced to make a quick pit stop Sunday, plus temps were in the mid-70’s, which converts to about a 3:13 (according to the VDOT O2 Calculator).
