New PRs At Brooklyn Half Marathon

Run SMART clients Charlie Hartel and Rob DeLong set new PRs at the Brooklyn Half Marathon yesterday morning.

Hartel cruised to a new 4-minute PR marking the first time he’s ever dipped under 1:30. His official time was 1:29:13 (6:49 per mile). [Charlie’s Results] When Charlie signed up for coaching about 2.5 years ago his PR for a half was 1:44. In his best 10k at that point he averaged 7:36 per mile to give you an idea of what a huge transformation he’s made while working with Run SMART coach Vince Sherry.

This was Rob DeLong’s second half marathon ever. He finished in 1:50:43 just reaching his goal of 1:50:59 which gets him into one of the seeded corrals at the Chicago Marathon later this fall. [Rob’s Results] This was just over a six minute PR for Rob in less than two months since his last half and his 6th personal best since signing up for coaching in February. Rob works with Run SMART coach Brian Rosetti.

Charlie Hartel Sets 6th PR With Run SMART

Run SMART client Charlie Hartel dropped another four minutes and change off his marathon PR. Charlie finished the A1A Marathon in Fort Lauderdale this past weekend in 3:24:11 (7:48 per mile). Full Results.

When Charlie signed up for private coaching his most recent marathon performance was 3:49 and his lifetime best was from 2002 when he ran 3:37. Slowly but surely he and coach Vince Sherry have continued to trim away at his fastest times. Based on our records, we’ve tagged this as his 6th PR with Run SMART. His last was this past October when he shattered his half marathon PR by 13 minutes in Connecticut!

Keep it rolling, Chaz!

Charlie Hartel Smashes Half Marathon PR

Run SMART client Charlie Hartel set his second straight PR in just a few weeks. At the Leaf Peepers Half Marathon in Waterbury, CT Charlie smashed his previous PR by 13 minutes finishing in 1:33:40. He was 55th overall out of 592 finishers. (Full Results). This was his 5th PR since joining Run SMART.

Next up for Charlie and coach Vince Sherry – the New York City Marathon!

Charles Hartel Lowers 4-Mile PR Again

Run SMART client Charlie Hartel signed up for coaching back in November of 2009 and has been working with coach Vince Sherry ever since. Before he joined The Project he had just run 50:16 (8:06 per mile) for 10k. Recently, he dropped 21 seconds off his 4-mile PR, the second time he’s lowered it since working with Vince, finishing in 25:46 (6:27 per mile). To see Charlie go from a guy averaging 8:06 per mile for 10k to 6:27’s for 4 miles is a huge transformation. He’s turning into quite the runner these days and we’re proud to see him continue to progress.

Next up, the New York City Marathon this November!

Chicago Marathon Heat Doesn’t Stop Run SMART PRs

The Chicago Marathon has a climate problem. Three out of the last four years the weather has been unseasonably warm but it didn’t stop all Run SMART clients from setting new personal bests. Temperatures were in the 80’s, which made it feel like a hot summer day and unfortunately, many runners weren’t able to reach their potential in such gruesome conditions. Ideally, you want temps 25-30 degrees cooler. On a positive note, Run SMART clients Erin Strout, Bettina Toner and Charlie Hartel still managed to set personal bests.

Charlie Hartel Makes Huge Breakthrough

This past weekend in Central Park, Run SMART client Charlie Hartel, averaged the fastest pace per mile he’s ever run in a race according to the NYRR’s results database. Charlie ran 26:07 (6:31 per mile, full results) for 4-miles at the Fitness, Mind, Body and Spirit Games, which represents a huge breakthrough in his training. His new 4-mile best indicates his current fitness could be anywhere from 5-8 minutes faster than his current 10k PR time.

Charlie Hartel Sets PR At London Marathon

Charlie Hartel signed up with The Run SMART Project to help him prepare for the London Marathon. This past weekend the Manhattanite set a new personal best in London after a few scares (injuries and an erupting volcano) threatened to keep him from the starting line.
