Cathrine Wolden Drops 5:09 At 5th Ave Mile

Generally, training for a marathon is not the best thing for your mile time, nor is getting older! Cathrine Wolden doesn’t seem to care for how things generally work.

At this year’s NYRR 5th Ave Mile she kept her PR streak alive placing second in her¬†age group finish (40-44) and 9th female overall in 5:09! [Results] Last year she ran 5:17 and the year before 5:19. An amazing string of improvements for someone whose training has been focused on the marathon!

Cathrine works with Run SMART coach Alicia Shay, who apparently know how to consistently get faster for all distances at the same time! ūüėČ

Run SMART client Cathrine Wolden was the 6th female and 1st masters finisher this past weekend at the St. George Marathon. [Full Results] Her time of 2:48:39 was a 2-minute PR.

We’re extremely proud and excited to see Cathrine reach one of her longtime goals of breaking 2:50 in the marathon. When she signed up for coaching and started working with Run SMART coach Alicia Shay back in 2010 her PR was 3:13. When you’re that fast and you go out and drop 25 minutes off your time in 3 years – you’re a badass! Your coach is a badass too!

‘My Mother Can Catch Him Because She Runs Fast’

We missed this local story from back in April on longtime Run SMART client Cathrine Wolden. At 40-years old the full-time mom talks about juggling family life and her quest to break 2:50 in the marathon.

Wolden, who has set 2:50 and 2:45 as her next marathon goal times, said she has had to adjust her training schedule over the last few years while she cares for her young family.

‚ÄúWhen the twins were born, I got back to training for the New York Marathon,‚ÄĚ she said. ‚ÄúI had to wake up at 4:30 a.m., run and get back to bed before starting the day. Now, with the children on a half-day [pre-school] schedule, I can run later in the morning.‚ÄĚ
