Ben Schippers Sets New PR

On an extremely hot and humid day, just under 90 degrees, Run SMART client Ben Schippers still managed to set a new 3.0 mile PR at the 2010 NYRR Wall Street Run. Ben finished 11th overall in 16:46 (5:35 per mile) (Full results). His time was 10 seconds faster than last year when it was only 65 degrees out at race time, according to the NYRR archives. Nice work, Ben!

Ben Schippers Sets Half Marathon Lifetime Best

Run SMART client, Ben Schippers of Brooklyn, NY, set a a new PR for 13.1 miles at the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in Woodstock, Vermont. Despite seriously rainy conditions, Ben still managed to run a lifetime best in his first half marathon since signing up for Run SMART coaching this past March. His time of 1:19:34 (6:05 pace) placed him 13th overall (full results).

Stuart White Wins 2010 Azle Lake Run

Big congrats to Run SMART client Stuart White for winning the 2010 Azle Lake Run (10k) in 34:52 (results). It was a lifetime best for Stuart and almost a 2 minute improvement of his time in the same race last year.

Stuart has been working with Run SMART coach Blake Boldon since last April.

Ask A Coach: Peaking On Time For A 5k Race

Question from Adam:  For someone who has about 30 weeks for their peak race, is it too early to start base or Phase 1? Would doubling the length of Phase one of the 5k plan hurt my race? Would I peak too early or plateau?

Run SMART Coach, Blake Boldon:  Thanks for the great question.  The simple answer is no, it’s never too early to start a base phase.  You’re right that there are many different answers to the question and that’s one of the great aspects of our sport – all of them can be a right answer as long as it works for you.

Jen Johnston Sets 25 Minute PR At Eugene Marathon!

It’s not everyday you can say one of your clients improved their marathon time by 25 minutes in one race. This past weekend in the Eugene Marathon Jen Johnston reached her longtime goal by qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Not only did she reach her goal, she dropped her marathon time by 25 minutes in the process, finishing in 3:37:46 (8:19 per mile). Full results can be found here.

Brian Schmidt Sets New 10k PR

Brian Schmidt of Sachse, TX continues a growing Run SMART trend of reaching 40 years old and getting faster as you age. At 41 years of age, Schmidt recently set a new personal best in the 10k at the Washington University Invitational, finishing in 34:26. (Full Results). His time was almost 10 seconds faster than his previous best set at age 39, two years ago.

Stuart White Leads GE To USCAA Title

Run SMART client Stuart White finished 18th overall in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Mardi Gras Marathon in a time of 2:50:02. He split 1:24 at the half so it’s important to note his even splits throughout. Also, this year the United States Corporate Athletics Association (USCAA) Marathon Championships was held in conjunction with the Mardi Gras Marathon so their was some team competition added to the mix. We’re proud to report that Stuart led the way for GE as their top scorer, helping them reclaim the national corporate team title! Full results for the race are here.

Jen Johnston Wins Age Group At Friendship Run 2010

Congrats to Jen Johnston for picking up a win in her age group at the Friendship Run 2010 in Olympia, WA last weekend. You can check out the full results here. She finished first in the 40-44 age group. Not to shabby after setting two marathon PRs just a few months ago.
