We’re pumped to announce that Mizuno and GU Energy will be sponsoring the 2010 Run SMART Retreats in Flagstaff, AZ. ‘The Long Green Line’

I was fortunate enough to have stumbled upon this video thanks to a Run SMART fan who posted it on our facebook page. “The Long Green Line” is a cross country running documentary about legendary coach, Joe Newton, and his quest for his 25th Illinois State Title in 50 years. It’s one of the most heart warming stories I’ve seen in a long time and certainly a true tear jerker at times. Coach Newton’s spirit is unrivaled and infectious. I love this man and wish there were more people like him. Once you start watching you can’t stop. He’s the epitome of what all coaches should aspire to when working with younger athletes. Definitely give this film a look…

Today, we unveiled a new page on runsmartproject.com – Testimonials. Thanks again to everyone who participated… we’ll be adding more soon. Make sure to check them out, they are a testament to who we are and why our private coaching project is effective. Here’s one of my favorites:

Running Shoe Tips For The Winter

Running in icy and snowy winter conditions can be very dangerous, especially if you’re getting your runs in before the sun rises or long after it goes down. Run SMART coach Vince Sherry covered this subject in the Arizona Daily Sun yesterday and offered a few great tips.

Alex Gardner Wins Age Group

Run SMART client Alex Gardner placed first in the 40-44 age group at the 28th Annual Children’s TLC Groundhog Run (5k) in Kansas City, MO. Alex’s time was 22:15 (7:10 per mile), which placed her 15th overall out of 1000+ female runners. Check out the full results.

Congrats to Alex and her coach, Vince Sherry, on a fine performance.

‘Misleading Food-Label Lingo’

I love this NY Times article because it’s so true and everyone needs to be aware of the cheap marketing tricks the advertising industry uses to sell food. The FDA needs to step up their regulations.

“Food Labeling Chaos” report from the Center for Science in the Public Interest that identifies several misleading labeling tactics used by food companies. Here are six common but misleading claims included in the C.S.P.I. report:

Becky Angeles Sets PR At Rock ‘N Roll Marathon

Rounding out the Run SMART results at the 2010 P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n Roll Marathon and Half Marathon is Becky Angeles of Murphy, TX. Becky set a new marathon PR by 1 minute and 10 seconds finishing 14th female overall out of 2500+ in a very impressive time of 2:48:04 (6:25 per mile)! Check out Becky’s full results and a short video of her crossing the line here.

Run SMART Results – Manhattan Half Marathon

Two Run SMART clients and one coach competed in the NYRR Manhattan Half Marathon this past weekend in Central Park. Weather was great – 37 degrees, 5mph winds and the rain held off until later in the day!

Hector Rivera, who used the race as a workout by running tempo pace for several miles, still managed to finish third place overall in 1:09:55 (5:20 per mile) and first in his age group by almost 4 minutes! Hector is coached by Dr. Jack Daniels.

No Slowing Down For Toni Miller

Toni Miller of Redding, CA improved on her performance from last year’s P.F. Chang’s Half Marathon. Since working with the Run SMART Project Toni managed to drop her time by over 5 minutes from last year. She finished in 1:52:35 (8:36 per mile).  Toni’s performance placed her 14th in the 55-59 age group. (Full results)
