‘Every Runner Ran A Personal Best’

We’re very excited about the Second Annual Run SMART XC Camp in Steamboat Springs, CO. Feedback like below from our first year has us more motivated than ever to continue supporting younger athletes.

Josh Allen, XC and Track coach at Prosper High School in Texas, after attending last year’s camp with his team:

I’m really glad we attended the Run SMART camp last summer. Every runner that attended camp ran personal bests in cross country in the fall, taking an average of over 1:00 off their 5k XC times, and both teams qualified for the regional cross country championships when neither had the previous season. The girls jumped from 7th in district to champions! They narrowly missed a trip to the state championships by 7 points! We will have 8-9 girls attending the camp this summer.

Success continued in track as well with several personal bests, including our top girl bringing her PR in the 3200 down from 11:38 to 11:16 and her 1600 from 5:18 to 5:13. Our top boy got his personal bests down to 4:23 for 1600 and 1:57 for the 800. He just signed his letter of intent to run at Abilene Christian University. I’m looking forward to returning to camp this summer, and I hope it’s a tradition that continues for our program into the future.

Run SMART Fountain Of Youth (Cont’d)

43 is the new 29? Well, Run SMART client Sara Armbruster is back to running like she did in her 20’s!

“I ran the second-fastest half-marathon of my life two weeks ago at the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon (1:56:38),” said Sara. “My fastest half marathon was when I was 29, and now I’m 43, so it feels pretty great to be running almost as fast as I was that many years ago. Definitely wouldn’t be running this well without Heidi’s help.”

The Running Jones (@TheRunningJones) wrote up a great review of our new training calendar VDOT O2. We’re excited to be part of his journey back into marathon shape after “10 years of of pizza, cheeseburgers, and ice cream.”

I’ve referred to the Daniels Running Formula book for years, but it’s a completely different experience to have a training plan that was designed by Dr. Jack Daniels and custom-tailored for me by the coaches at The Run SMART Project.  I don’t have to be the expert.  My entire Jack Daniels 15-Week Marathon training schedule, including my goal race, is loaded right into the VDOT O2 App.

Until yesterday, I could not see myself running a full marathon.  I’ve run five marathons, but the last one was ten years ago.  Yesterday I felt like I took a quantum leap in fitness.  I ran my entire twelve miles at an average of 9:10 per mile, slightly faster than my target pace of 9:14.  I had to keep myself from going too fast.  I didn’t stagger in on dead legs a few minutes per mile slower than when I started as I had done on my last few long runs, which were at least a mile shorter than this one.  Yesterday I could finally see myself running a full marathon.

“Because Of Her I’ve Seen My Abilities Skyrocket”

Run SMART client James McKirdy of New Britain, CT was kind enough to let us share his thoughtful words about his coach Alvina Begay. This kind of stuff makes our week! We love our staff and clients.

I just wanted to send an email to the staff to let everyone know how grateful I am to be working with Alvina.  I started with her just after the New Year and it’s been a full 5 months I think.  I came in with a background in running, I’m a professional trainer and have been in the health industry for just about a decade.  I’m not one to gloat on my own successes, but I will say she’s done an amazing job with me thus far.

I’ve been training for the Philly Marathon in November later this year and never really tackled running in quite this way before.  She’s a great coach and because of her, I’ve seen my abilities sky rocket.  In fact, I’d actually say I’ve only had one bad workout and that’s when it was 93 and 95% Humidity.  Aside from that, even though she’s half a light year away, she’s incredibly accessible and very supportive.

Big PR At The Derby!

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer Katherine McClain (at left) of Louisville, KY broke her goal of breaking the 1:30 half marathon barrier at the Kentucky Derby Mini Marathon. She ended up running 1:25:44, finishing 9th overall female and 2nd in my age group.

“Needless to say, I am one happy girl! Thanks to the JD Training Plan, I beat my previous half marathon PR by about 9 minutes (1:34:47). Thank you again for your help and I have already recommended this program to my family and friends!”

“Actually, I Felt Too Good”

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer, Brian Beerman of Pittsburgh, PA, after completing his 33rd marathon in the last 15 years:

“I felt great and am really happy with how the race went. Actually, I felt too good. I felt like I had 30 miles left in me when I finished and I feel fine and not as sore as I usually am.”

Unlike many, when you take a scientific approach towards training you don’t have to trash your body while preparing for and running a marathon.

Running Under The Influence At Prosper High School

One of the great things about Jack’s book, Daniels’ Running Formula, is that it’s caught on with so many high school and college coaches across the country who use it as a guide to coach their athletes. Most runners who go through the high school and college ranks often don’t realize the influence this one man had on their careers.

“No Injuries or Cramping!”

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer Michael Hofstetter just sent us results from his 10k goal race. Hostetter broke 1 hour for the first time.

YES! Finally broke 1 hour! Thanks to your plan, was able to complete 10K in 56:37!!!   I’ve been running this same 10K for the last 4 years now, and starting at 1:09, then always finishing close to 1 hour, FINALLY broke the 1 hour, truly, thanks to your plan. Following the race I then golfed 9 holes, felt really strong, and NO INJURIES or CRAMPING!  It’s a hilly course, which is part of the challenge, and the heat was pretty bad, two things, (Hills and Heat), I mentally struggle with, probably if it were 5 degrees cooler or no sun, probably would have finished around 55Min, regardless, very happy with my results, and look forward to a 50Min finish next year!

Thanks again for your plan it has worked great for me, although challenging, I’ve been able to get to almost all of the daily workouts, (except 2 so far since I started), I feel stronger, and I’m not trying to power through stress injuries, your PLANS WORK!
