Greg Gilliam of Stafford, VA set five new PRs this fall after customizing an 18-week marathon plan. Gilliam’s main objective was to PR at Marine Corps so he was pleasantly surprised to see how much his new fitness helped him achieve personal bests across other distances as well.
After retiring from the Marine Corps two years ago I needed something to push me and new goals for myself, so I was referred to The Run SMART Project by a friend from the Fredericksburg Area Running Club. My goal was to PR at the Marine Corps Marathon. I did with a 10-minute improvement in 3:34. What I didn’t realize is that I would end up setting numerous PRs along the way. I PR’d in the half marathon by 12-minutes and then again by another two-minutes last weekend at the Richmond Half Marathon. After setting five separate PR’s this summer I can’t wait to get back on the program so I can work towards new goals.
Greg’s official time at Marine Corps was 3:34:23, 1-second faster in the second half of the race! [Full Results] He bounced back quickly and ran his fastest half marathon ever in Richmond this past weekend with a 1:29:53. [Full Results]
