Joe Swift of Fairfield, CT turns 40 in a few months but he’s refusing to accept the idea that you need to create new “Masters PRs” due to the impending slowdown as his body ages. This winter we customized a 15-week training plan to help him run as fast as possible and he refused to miss a beat, even doing Threshold miles by himself at 5 a.m. in the dark before work!
At the Scranton Half Marathon this past weekend his hard work and dedication paid off with a new personal best of 1:16:30. [Full Results] This was 15-seconds faster than his VDOT Projected time on VDOT O2 and a 13-second improvement from his previous best of 1:16:43 set back in 2006!
Once again, The Run SMART Project training plan came through for me. The 15-week plan I used added an extra day of quality per week and it was all the difference in the world on race day. I felt strong from start to finish and ran almost exactly what they projected.
After consulting about my race strategy Coach Brian Rosetti had me running my fastest mile to finish the race and I did exactly that with a 5:37 split for mile 13. It’s pretty incredible how spot on his projections were for this race. I can’t say enough about this coaching program and would recommend anyone from a novice to competitive runner to sign up for their training services.
