We’re getting closer to the release of the official VDOT Running Calculator on Android! Here’s part II of our little countdown on how we got here:
After testing elite runners Dr. Jack Daniels and friend Jimmy Gilbert came up with “VDOT” – a measure of a runner’s fitness from which you can accurately determine appropriate training paces. The VDOT tables have been used successfully since the 1970s and were popularized when Daniels’ Running Formula was first released in 1998.
Daniels writes, “When you know your VDOT value, you can eliminate a great deal of guesswork from training and can avoid overtraining. I’ll go so far as to say that your VDOT takes into account your physiological input into racing, because instead of using lab tests to determine your ability level, we’re using your race performances, which are affected by your motivation and willingness to deal with discomfort. VDOT reflects everything that an individual calls on to perform in a race.”
Looking forward to the release. I use a few buggy unofficial ones at the moment.
