Run SMART client James McKirdy of New Britain, CT finished his first marathon last weekend in Philadelphia in a time of 2:38:56. [Race results] He was 48th overall, capping off an amazing season with his coach Alvina Begay. As James noted earlier this year he has seen his ability skyrocket since he started working with Alvina.
After setting a PR in the half marathon Alex Gonzalez customized his second Jack Daniels’ plan this time for the Chicago Marathon.
He emailed us recently to let us know he’s now 2-for-2, “I just wanted to let you know I had a great day in Chicago last month. I finished in 3:48 and am very happy with the results. Conditions were perfect and I felt well-trained.”
That performance was 33 minutes faster than his previous best and seven minutes faster than his goal when he signed up! Congrats, Alex!
Run SMART client Rowan Jones of Waverly, KY won the Saint Ann 5k last weekend dropping almost 2-minutes off his previous best set back in May of 2012. Rowan started working with Run SMART late last year with a 19:04 5k PR. He then set half marathon and marathon PRs on back to back days in January. Now he’s improving his speed after a victory in his local 5k and a new PR of 17:21* (Rowan swears the course was a little short). We appreciate his modesty but this guy is improving like crazy regardless.
Rowan works with Run SMART coach “Hot” Rod Koborsi.
Bradley Baker customized one of Jack’s training plans for a local Turkey Trot 5k later this month with a goal of 24:00. Were happy to announce he already reached his goal and more several weeks in advance at the Run by the Bay 5k in Duxbury, MA. The 60-year-old from Hingham, MA won his age group and finished 17th overall in 22:58. [Full Results]
This isn’t Bradley’s first time running under the influence. He set a half marathon pr back in April too!
Louis Glaser of Chicago, IL, following his training plan for a second time after setting a PR this past spring in Boston, set another personal best in NYC. Louis ran 2:56:44 on a very challenging day with the wind finishing 17th overall and 2nd US male in his age group (50-54). [Results] There were 16 other dudes over 50 who ran faster than that?!? Wow.
Check out Louis’ pace per 5k. Who negative splits New York? Not many.
Congrats to our good friend/client Amy Gordon of New York, NY for finishing 77th female overall this past weekend at the NYC Marathon. Amy ran a new personal best of 3:07:47 on a not so fast course on a not so fast windy day. [Results] This was over 9 minutes faster than her previous best set almost three years ago.
Amy works with Run SMART hunk Vince Sherry.
