Jeremy Jungling of Brandon, MS finished the 7 Bridges Marathon last weekend, his first since being diagnosed with cancer. The race was almost one year after he started his chemotherapy. Afterwards, he told us that he even structured his training around chemo sessions because of the high survival rate for people who exercise with his cancer. Not only did he purchase one our training plans and train through chemo, he set a new personal best by 21 minutes, finishing in 3:24:32 [full results]! He also set PRs for other distances along the way for 5k, 10k and half marathon.
Run SMART client Steve Rossler qualified for the Boston Marathon last week in Grand Rapids. The 53-year-old from Newton, IA finished 29th out of 102 in his age group in 3:38:10. [Full results] He’s now only 30 seconds away from his marathon lifetime best from 2009. Hey, 50 is the new 40!
Steve’s pacing was really strong throughout in true Jack Daniels’ fashion. His pace per mile for the first half was 8:19, just one second faster per mile than his overall pace.
Jack Daniels’ Training Plan customer Harry Dumont of Pelham, NH eclipsed his goal pace of 7:27 at the Smuttynose Half Marathon. Dumont finished in 1:37:17 (7:26 per mile). [Full results]
During his build-up to Smuttynose he set another PR at a local 5k finishing in 20:12, over 2.5 minutes faster than his performance in the same race last year.
Now Dumont is eyeing a run at a BQ qualifier next year. “Overall, I was really happy with the program. I loved the track workouts and it obviously worked since I’m significantly faster than I used to be.”
Jack Daniels’ Training Plan customer Elie Silver of Toronto, ON set a monster PR in Chicago this past weekend. His official time of 3:11:40 was roughly a 41-minute personal best and 20-seconds faster than his goal time when he customized his plan back in May. [Full Results]
We’re excited to help Elie continue to improve and reach his goal of sub-3:05 to qualify for Boston. We’re confident since this was only his second marathon that he can get there very soon.
Jack Daniels’ Training Plan customer Henry Jungling broke his longtime goal of running sub-4 in the marathon. This past weekend at the Bemidji Blue Ox Marathon the 66-year old from Aplington, IA got his Boston Qualifier with a 3:58:21, finishing 4th in his age group. [Full Results]

His previous PR was 4:12:xx but he had struggled in his last two marathons and after a disappointing Dallas marathon last December, almost gave up on his dream of a sub-4 and a BQ time. On Saturday, he ran a 3:58:21 and qualified for Boston at the age of 66!He said he felt the training left him feeling strong and fresh on race day as opposed to previous years where he felt a little beat down.
Run SMART client Caroline Holden of Columbus, Ohio set a new marathon PR in Chicago this past weekend. Her official time was 3:23:38, six minutes faster than her previous best and almost 14 minutes faster than her lifetime best when she started working with coach Rod Koborsi.
Best part of Caroline’s race was her pacing. She started out at 8:03 pace per mile for the first 5k and finished the race averaging 7:46 pace. Her last few miles were sub-7:30’s. Look at those splits! She did a progression run in the marathon! [Full results]

Run SMART client Jamesina Simpson achieved her longtime goal of breaking 3-hours in the marathon this past weekend at the St. George Marathon in Utah. Her official time was 2:59:21! [Full results]

Mike Blake of Oklahoma City, OK set a new PR at the Portland Marathon last weekend. The 42-year-old client of Dr. Jack Daniels entered the race with a 3:46 lifetime best and left Portland with a PR 21 minutes faster! Mike’s official time was 3:25:16. [Full Results]
