Four years ago, Run SMART client Christen Meyer had what many considered career ending surgery on her Achilles. She underwent a long and slow recovery process but refused to believe she couldn’t compete at a high level again. This past weekend her perseverance paid off at the Cal International Marathon. At age 48, and competing in her first race in four years, Christen ran 2:58:21 to finish second in her age group!
“The best part about Christen’s race was that she said it felt pretty easy,” said her coach Brian Rosetti. “It’s not like we were gearing up for this race all year either. We literally decided not to race until it felt right and things really started to come together just in the last few months. Before that it was a long and slow process of carefully getting Christen back in the groove and training at a high level again. In her last race, which feels like forever ago, she ran 2:49 and won the masters division at the 2007 Philly Marathon. After today’s race I’m thinking, man, she can get back to that level again. It’s really wild.”
