We just finished week #8 at The Anderson School on the Upper West Side. We’ve had a busy program thus far.
In week #4 we focused on proper running form, which included a bean bag relay at the end of the session. In Week #5 we focused on heart rate education showing the kids how to count their heart rate and measure it after different types of running efforts. In week #6 we did some classroom work on proper nutrition for runners. In week #7 we focused on our universal theme – proper pacing. This session went particularly well when we broke the kids into teams of three and had them predict their times for each lap they ran. Today we had a scavenger hunt and at each station the kids had to accomplish a task which reviewed some of the things they’ve learned thus far in order to move onto the next station.
Below are some pictures from today. Everyday starts and finishes with a review of their Run SMART running logs which tracks their schoolyard laps. We’re now up to 11 laps with a goal of reaching 17 in one run.
