This past May we mentioned we were still in the early phases of planning our after-school running initiative. Now, we’re one step closer to our goal of putting younger generations on a path towards a healthier lifestyle and a greater appreciation for something so natural – running. Starting this week in New York City we’ll be launching Run SMART Kids at The Dwight School and on September 28th at The Anderson School!
Kids will learn:
- Goal setting
- Proper running form
- How to follow a running plan
- How to pace themselves
- Proper nutrition
Also, today in our final meeting at The Anderson School we talked about including a log sheet in the students folder so they can record their laps and physical activity each week. This will help us measure their long term progress and we’ll pick out a charity so they can raise money along the way!
We’ll be posting pictures, reactions and stories along the way so stay tuned and if you have a school in your area that could use a running program for 4th, 5th and 6th graders let us know! We’d love to help out any way we can.
