Run SMART Project client John Robinson of Savannah, GA continued his impressive racing with PR’s in the 10k and 1/2 marathon over the last two weekends. This makes three PR’s out of three races for Robinson in 2010. Robinson has been working with Run SMART coach Mike Smith for 11 months.
On February 27th Robinson blasted 40:35 for first in his age group and 10th overall at the Seacrest Partners Race for Preservation 10k in Savannah, GA, beating his previous PR by 3 minutes. “I knew John was ready for 10k faster than he had ever run before, but I have to say I was surprised at how fast it was. We had taken a few weeks very easy and were just beginning a long marathon phase and had planned on using this as a good workout. The situation was a great one, he executed perfectly, and showed that he is able to race off of the year we’ve invested in proper training.” said Smith.
Just seven days later Robinson PR’d again at the Snickers Marathon Energy Bar Half Marathon in Albany, GA, finishing in 1:30:51 for 9th overall and 3rd in his age group. This beat his previous best by over seven minutes! “The half PR meant a lot for John because this was a distance where he had found himself stuck at with the same times over a year ago, a breakthrough like that is one you don’t forget,” said Smith. “We talked a lot about racing off of feel and not so focused on time. Two things that make John the runner he is are his commitment and his fearlessness. When we have a plan I know he won’t doubt himself, and this weekend we saw what that can do. He averaged a pace that we once did short repeats at, but he doesn’t let his mind get in his way, he just races. I think this is just the start for him.”
After recovering Robinson heads back into marathon training as he gears up for the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon on June 6th, where he’ll be targeting a Boston Qualifier.
