***Breaking News***

Randy Ashley, one of our esteemed Advisory Council members has just reported to us that one of his long time athletes, Bryan Dayton, took home the USATF 50k Trail Championship title. Dayton took the lead with 1.5 miles to go only to open up a 37 second lead as he crossed the finish line to take home the national title. It was the closest finish in the history of the Headlands 50k.

Congrats to Bryan on his sweet victory!

Run S.M.A.R.T. Athletes Compete in NYC Half

It was a dreary morning in Manhattan for the first annual NYC Half Marathon. On a cool but humid race day, four Run S.M.A.R.T. athletes took to the roads starting in Central Park and ending at the bottom of the island in Battery Park.

Terry Ballou continued her PR streak running 1:27:44, a 5 minute plus PR for 13.1 miles. Terry closed her last 800 meters amidst the pouring rain in 3:02. Boom. Denise Fergus (1:38), Kristine Carleton (1:44) and Tina Reine (2:00) also competed in the event. All are showing great progress towards their individual goals this fall.

You can view the full results here. Check out a video [Quicktime] of the race courtesy of New York Road Runners here.

Nice race ladies...

Testimonial

Thanks for the "pep talk." Like I said, I'm ready to get back on the damn horse. You are the perfect coach for me; your no B.S. encouraging, pragmatic, and perhaps most importantly, insightful feedback and advice are exceptional at hitting the mark, and I very much appreciate it.

Race Results

It was a good weekend of racing for Run S.M.A.R.T. clients...

In Leesburg, VA at the Harris Teeter 20k, Run S.M.A.R.T. coach Ben Koch and client Frank Sprtel, had a nice effort this Sunday morning to tune up for their fall marathons. Both started off together around marathon goal pace, clicking off at 5:40's and then working their way up the pack. Ben finished 4th in 1:08:34 and Frank was 6th in 1:09:24. View results here. Ben is gearing up for Marine Corps. in October and Frank will be running in Twin Cities in October as well. Keep it rolling guys...

In Chicago, IL at the Lasalle Bank Distance Classic (half marathon), Christen Meyer rolled to a first place masters finish in 1:22:12. View results here. She was 6th female overall in a very competitive field. The game plan was to start of conservative in the 6:20's and run negative after the first 4 miles. She did exactly that averaging 6:17 pace with a monster last mile split of 5:51. Congrats Christen! Keep it rolling into the fall...

Lots of racing to come from many of our athletes...so it should be an exciting fall.

NY1 Interview

NY1 News is doing a piece on the Yoga for Runners Workshop tomorrow. I was interviewed about what we do here at Run S.M.A.R.T. The new piece runs during the day tomorrow starting at 7:55 a.m. The online article is on the NY1 web site here. The workshop is next Thursday the 17th of August at Yoga Works midtown studio (160 East 56th St.). You can sign up for the workshop here. It's about $24 in advance for all running club or Run S.M.A.R.T. clients.

We'd love to see some of our New York clients come check it out...especially if you've never tried Yoga. It could really compliment your training. Not only will it help with flexibility and balance of the muscles; it helps reduce day to day stress. Stress can really be an overlooked factor for sore or tight muscles.
