Run S.M.A.R.T. Coach Rocks Twilight 5K

Coach Vince Sherry wins Charlotte Twilight 5K in 15:38 outkicking Brevard native Thomas Cason. Sherry averaged a steady 5:02 per mile, dropping the hammer down over the last quarter mile to shake Cason off for the victory. About 1000 runners lined up for the evening race last weekend...it's good to see Run S.M.A.R.T. in the top spot.

Results are here...

Vince is currently in his build-up for the Marine Corp. marathon, so having to dip into his speed reserves while running high mileage weeks was nice to see.

Good Luck going forward man...

Site Update

Hey there...

Haven't updated the old blog in a while...

We put up a new "Tip of the Week" feature regarding muscle recovery. The link to the full article by Dr. Edmund Burke is here. Recovery is critical for all athletes, especially runners because of the impact and breakdown of your joints and muscles. Most athletes don't allow their bodies to recover properly, which can lead to overtraining or injury. It can be from not taking enough easy days or it can be from not getting the types of nutrients or elements the body desperately needs to replenish and aid itself in the recovery period after a harder effort.

Dr. Burke's article talks about the R4 system discovered in the 90's, which has been proven to accelerate the recovery process through 4 principles:

1. Restoring Electrolytes
2. Rapidly replenishing Glycogen levels
3. Reduction of Oxidative and muscle stress through antioxidants (Vitamin E & C)
4. Increasing Amino Acid levels immediately after workout (Glutamine)

The sports drink Endurox R4 factors these 4 principles into its ingredients.

Run S.M.A.R.T. Client competes in Queens Half

Tina Reine of NYC competed in the Queens Half Marathon this past Saturday, April 29th. After just 9 weeks of training with The Run S.M.A.R.T. Project for her first ever racing debut, Tina courageously averaged 8:47 per mile for the rolling 13.1 mile course. Her overall time was 1:55:04. You can view Tina's results here. Notice two spots below how she outkicked her old coach who helped pace her during the race. I felt used...

When Tina signed up with us, she was looking for a challenge. She had very little running background prior to our time working together for this Half Marathon. What she was able to accomplish in such little time with no running background is inspiring.

Tina is setting her sights on the NYC Marathon this November. With about 26 weeks till NYC, who knows how far Tina is capable of going. It's exciting to see such progress and where it's heading.

Congrats Tina!
