Kim Sidey Gets BQ After 27th Marathon

Kim Sidey of Augusta, Georgia completed his 27th marathon and got his first BQ at the Erie Marathon.

I followed a Run SMART plan for 6-months. My goal was to break 3:40 to ensure entrance in the Boston Marathon. My final time was 3:37:12. It was just a matter of sticking with the plan. It was my 27th marathon and second serious attempt at qualifying. It was also my first training plan. My own devices were not adequate and it took the Jack Daniels’ plan to really make it happen. Thanks!

Science on the Run: The Cost of Eating and Running

Linking current research to running

By Nikki Reiter

In endurance running, a lighter body means a reduced cost of running, making it easier to achieve better running results. Research has been performed to determine the effect of various factors affecting running performance, such as if different body size, shape, and composition.

In a recent study, it was found that along with losing fat mass, gaining fat free mass allowed for an increased ability of the body to store and release elastic energy during running, which reduced the cost of running.

Rusty Smith of Leawood, KS got his BQ at the Santa Rosa Marathon. He set a new PR finishing in 3:11:26 by running the second half of the race slightly faster. [Full results] Afterwards, he noted…

At mile 20, I still felt amazing, so I started opening up a little. My last 6 miles were my fastest of the race. I finished in 3:11. Well under the 3:15 I needed for Boston.

I followed your training schedule exactly.  I truly believe that is why I had such a great race.  Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m a huge believer in Run SMART.
