Two More Run SMART PRs At NYC Half

Coach Ann Alyanak recently reported two more Run SMART PRs at the NYC Half. Ann’s longtime clients Emily Lilja and Jason Goodhand both took over 6 minutes off their previous bests. Emily finished in 2:00:16 and Jason clocked 1:51:50.

Both clients have shown steady progress since signing up for private coaching. A true sign of our model – preventing overtraining. Nice work, guys!

How Does Taking Time Off Affect My Training?

Love this quote by Jack, “rest or recovery is part of training, it’s not avoiding training.” Everyone assumes they must train more to get better but many times more recovery or rest can lead to greater benefits. There’s another side to this as well. We always have clients who try and push their limits when they’re sick or injured because they’re worried about missing training even if it’s just taking a day off or two. Most don’t realize you can take up to 10 days off in a row without losing much fitness. This basic fact could prevent many injuries amongst runners.

Kristin Garcia Gets One Plan, Three New PRs

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer Kristin Garcia of Fort Worth, TX set three new PRs while following her 15-week half marathon plan. In her goal race, the Dallas Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, she finished in an impressive 1:25:42, nearly a minute and a half faster than her previous best set back in 2008! [Full results] Along the way she also PR’d in the 5k and 10k running 19:27 and 39:18.

Jacek Mrukowicz Sets Second PR In Two Weeks

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer Jacek Mrukowicz set PRs in back to back weeks while following his marathon training plan. Last week he ran 40:41 in the Maniack 10k, almost two minutes faster than his previous best. This past weekend he ran the Warsaw Half Marathon 1:28:20, almost four minutes faster than his previous best and just ahead of what his plan had him scheduled to finish in.

With less than five weeks to go he’s well on pace to set a huge PR at the Cracovia Marathon. Good luck, Jacek!

We’re extremely excited to announce that world-class Nike athlete, Alvina Begay, is our latest addition to the Run SMART staff. She is now accepting private clients.

Being a Run SMART coach will give me the opportunity to do the same and share my knowledge of running and nutrition with runners who are motivated to reach their potential.”

Emily Fried Smashes PR At NYC Half

Run SMART client Emily Fried smashed her half marathon PR by running 1:46:48 in the NYC Half Marathon on Sunday. She ran with great inspiration honoring our dear friend Kay Mueller who is currently battling Colorectal Cancer. If you’d like to donate to Emily and Kay’s cause to fight Colorectal Cancer visit Emily’s page.

Emily’s previous PR was 1:50:43. At the 10k mark she was 52:12 or 8:24 pace per mile which would have put her right at her previous PR if she hadn’t run such a strong second half! [Full results]

Cathrine Wolden Sets New PR At NYC Half

Earlier this month we wrote about Run SMART client Cathrine Wolden refusing to stop getting faster after all these years. This past weekend she finished 2nd in her age group (40-44) at the NYC Half this past weekend in a new personal best. Cathrine ran 1:23:46, one minutes and 18 seconds faster than her previous best and almost three minutes faster than her performance in the same race last year! [Full results]

Kelly Paul Goes 3-for-3

Jack Daniels Training Plan customer Kelly Paul of Fairfax, VA earned her second marathon PR in two months at the Rock ‘N’ Roll USA Marathon in Washington D.C. Kelly set an 8-minute PR at Disney this past December but afterwards said, “I know I should have been thrilled, but after using your training program I knew I was physically capable of doing better.”

Determined, Kelly decided to capitalize on her new fitness. In February, she dropped 8.5 minutes off her half marathon PR and then this past weekend in D.C. she got what she was looking for – another 13 minutes and 39 seconds off her marathon time! She finished in 4:34:44. [Full results]

DeLong Sets Third Half Marathon PR In Four Months

Back in January we wrote that Run SMART client Rob DeLong sets a PR every time he steps foot in a race. Clearly, he didn’t feel pressured because this weekend he lowered his half marathon time for the third time in four months and set a new 10k PR in route!

On a pretty rolling course at the D.C. Rock ‘N Roll Half Marathon Delong finished in 1:44:16 (7:58 per mile). [Full results] This was the first time he ever cracked 8:00 per mile in a half. One year ago his half marathon PR was 1:57:30. This steady progress has him on track to reach his goal in Boston next month.

DeLong works with Run SMART coach Brian Rosetti.
